Concert Choir Concert Choir is the largest choral ensemble at J.P. Stevens; every student in the choir program is a member of Concert Choir. The choir meets during every school day, split between two class periods. Also, there is an additional rehearsal every Thursday afternoon from 2:45-4pm. The Concert Choir performs at both the Holiday and Spring Concerts, as well as other fundraising events throughout the year. In addition, Concert Choir attends the annual Choir and Orchestra trip in the Spring. The repertoire performed by Concert Choir is a wide variety of SATB music which spans all time periods and genres.
A Cappella A Cappella is the first auditioned choir at J.P. Stevens. To be a member of A Cappella students need to audition to show they are able to sing their part alone in a quartet with other voice parts. A Cappella meets every school day, as well as every Monday evening from 5:50-7:30pm. All members of A Cappella also sing in Concert Choir. Students enrolled in the daily class period receive honors credit. The A Cappella Choir performs at both the Holiday and Spring Concerts, fundraising events such as Spaghetti Dinner and Cafe Night, as well as at choral festivals including the Roxbury Invitational and the Middlesex County Choral Festival. A Cappella also travels for the annual Choir and Orchestra trip in the Spring. Repertoire performed is mainly a cappella SATB music which is equally diverse and slightly more challenging.
Men's Ensemble Men's Ensemble consists of all men from A Cappella, as well as some Concert Choir men. This ensemble meets every Wednesday mornings from 6:55-7:30am to rehearse. The Men's Ensemble performs at both the Holiday and Spring Concerts, and various other events throughout the school year. The repertoire is a challenging and entertaining variety of TTBB music.
Women's Ensemble Women's Ensemble consists of all women from A Cappella, as well as some Concert Choir women. This ensemble meets Friday mornings from 6:55-7:30am to rehearse. The Women's Ensemble performs at both the Holiday and Spring Concerts, and various other events throughout the school year. The repertoire is a challenging and entertaining variety of SSAA music.
Chamber Choir Chamber Choir is the highest level choir at J.P. Stevens. Singers in this 36 member ensemble must go through a demanding audition process in which the students are evaluated on part singing, tone quality, blend, musicality, and both a prepared and an on-the-spot sight-reading. Chamber Choir meets every school day, as well as Monday evenings from 7:30-8:45pm. Members of Chamber Choir also sing in A Cappella and Concert Choir. The Chamber Choir performs at both the Holiday and Spring Concerts, fundraising events such as Spaghetti Dinner and Cafe Night, as well as at choral festivals including the Roxbury Invitational and the Middlesex County Choral Festival. As the highest level choir, Chamber additionally participates in other choral festivals such as the NJ State ACDA Festival and other such festivals hosted by universities throughout New Jersey. Other performances include Honors Society induction ceremonies, Caroling, Dunkin Donuts fundraisers, Barnes and Noble fundraisers, and many others. Chamber also travels for the annual Choir and Orchestra trip in the Spring. Repertoire performed is mainly a cappella SATB music which is equally diverse and typically of a College or University level. |
